Lauren Luloff

Publisher Description

The interruption of the rendered form is so dislocating. It is like placing a photograph on a large blank wall. It is here where the personal content comes into play so strongly in Luloff’s paintings. The idea of what she truly wants to say beyond the formal investigations. Ultimately she is making paintings of people and plants. These things are both fecund and life affirming. Both grow and decay. The difficulty of the process is an insurance policy against virtuosity. She has no reverence for mastery, only effort. The effort here is to confront what she wants to be and what she finds inspiring in the world. It can be hard to look at, but it should be hard: to see a human being reaching for something slightly beyond her grasp.
