“In the midst of the lake Arthur was ware of an arm clothed in white samite, that held a fair sword in that hand. ”
― Thomas Malory, Le Morte d'Arthur

About the Book
Sir Thomas Malory, an English author incarcerated at Newgate, compiled the chivalric anthology Le Morte d'Arthur. Following the demise of Malory, William Caxton published a book bearing the identical title, "Book of King Arthur and of his Noble Knights of the Round Table." Caxton altered the title to Le Morte d'Arthur, which in Middle French translates to "The Death of Arthur." The narratives of King Arthur, Lancelot, Merlin, and the Knights of the Round Table are detailed in the book. Malory's novel fails to strive for historical authenticity, as it is situated in an unspecified era, incorporates several anachronisms, and substitutes the Ottoman Turks for Arthur's Saxon colonizers. The twenty-one-book Le Morte d'Arthur offers an exhaustive account of various events, such as the birth of Uther Pendragon and his son Arthur, the ascent to power of Arthur, the exploits of Sir Lancelot and Sir Gareth, the romantic entanglements of Tristan and Iseult, the quest for the Holy Grail, Lancelot and Guinevere's forbidden affection, and the dissolution of the Round Table Knights. Notwithstanding its empirical inaccuracies, it maintains its status as one of the preeminent pieces of Arthurian literature.
