Sir Thomas Malory, an English author incarcerated at Newgate, compiled the chivalric anthology Le Morte d'Arthur. Caxton altered the title to Le Morte d'Arthur, which in Middle French translates to "The Death of Arthur." Malory's novel fails to strive for historical authenticity, as it is situated in an unspecified era, incorporates several anachronisms, and substitutes the Ottoman Turks for Arthur's Saxon colonizers.
