Murdoch is understandably ambivalent, given that he and his sister Susanna, recently deceased in a nunnery, fled their violent, alcoholic father 22 years earlier.

Ridiculous, overstuffed Dickensian tale
I liked the first three books in the Murdoch series, but no more... off to another author.
