Leveling the Field

I haven't read the other books in this series. I didn't feel lost but maybe I would have had a better idea of who Ethan and Lissa are.

Ethan used to be a famous YouTuber before he fell off the face of the earth. After experiencing a tragedy, his goal is to stay behind the scenes of his gamer magazine. When he shows up to the office for an interview, he's both intrigued by photographer, Lissa, and horrified. He absolutely doesn't want his picture taken. Lissa went to the interview hoping to get Ethan to participate in her project honoring her sister but quickly realizes that he is not someone who want his story told. Will the secrets these two are hiding eventually push them apart?

I loved the dual POV and heat. These two had immediate chemistry and I loved how much they helped each other grow and overcome their tragedies. I haven't read the other books in this series but they are definitely being added to my TBR!

Though I am really sad to see Megan Erickson’s Gamers Series end – l truly loved the family that she created with each of these amazing characters and their stories. As she always does, Megan did a great job of bringing these characters to life – giving them heart and souls, as well as brilliant senses of humor. If you have not already one-clicked these books or added them to your TBR, do it now. Worth it. Worth it. Worth it.

As much as I adored the first three books in this series, Leveling the Field has been book I was anxiously awaiting. Because in each of the other books we get bits and pieces of Ethan Talley. He has been on the periphery of each of those books and it was clear that behind his dark and impenetrable force field, there was a really good man fighting to stay hidden under his grief. I will tell you that it was worth the wait – Leveling the Field is an amazing well-told story about love, loss and two people who have no idea how much they need each other.

In Lissa Kingsman, Megan Erickson has created a character who from the word go is a power-house. She unapologetically in charge of her sexuality and a dirty talker extraordinaire. Not even kidding - She made me incredibly hot and I totally loved her. But even more, I fell in with love with Lissa’s heart. The way in which she found a way to channel her emotions to deal with a catastrophic loss was just so incredibly moving.

To camp in Ethan Talley’s head and walk in his shoes is definitely not an easy task. Because of his own devastation, he has intentionally removed himself from all that is good and made being in his company nearly impossible. But there light and heat in the form of Lissa Kingsman – she is a catalyst in so many ways. Bearing witness to his reawakening is such an emotionally powerful experience and is a true testament to the beauty of not only Megan’s writing, but her heart.

Lissa and Ethan together were nothing short of white-hot. Their words. Their chemistry. Their appetite and need for each other – it was pure and raw. But most of all their very powerful connection – as a reader, when you feel that electricity, almost a buzz that it is a very special thing.

But Leveling the Field isn’t all seriousness – there are a bunch of moments where you find yourself laughing quite hard (avoid liquids). It’s one of many reasons why I love reading Megan’s books.

So. Go. Go get this book – I know you will love it as much as I did.
