Publisher Description
How the wealthy and powerful abuse finance to skim immense profits
Debasement of the dollar as a result of ill-use of leverage is destroying the global economy, and in Leverage, well known market commentator Karl Denninger follows the path of money throughout history to prove that currencies are debased when moneyed and powerful interests pull the levers of government and policy to enrich themselves at the expense of the masses. The result is ugly: the value of everything—including gold—falls, and even personal safety is at risk in a world where there is limited money even for essentials like food and fuel. History is littered with the collapse of monetary and economic systems from Rome to Germany to Zimbabwe.
Presents an inside look at how moneyed and powerful interests debase the dollar through the willful and intentional failure to honestly represent short and long-term mathematical truths that underlie all economic systems Shows how, if imbalances are not corrected, financial crises will reoccur again and again Authored by Karl Denninger, who has been running the popular website The Market Ticker since 2007
Customer Reviews
Excellent rational (nonpartisan) examination
Traders are all quite familiar with Denninger. This is written for a broader audience, free of esoteric finance concepts and obfuscated $10 words. It's very descriptive and well organized, and I'm pretty sure anyone could connect with the concepts in this book and see the big picture he's drawing here.
I just wish this book was marketed much more widely--no Oprah sticker or Good Morning America interviews yet?--because everyone needs to understand this. 99% of the Westerners are little more than willful bag holders because they're disgusted with the idea that they should have to educate themselves to be protected.
A must read for you, your friends, and your local government officials
Leverage has all of the necessary data and events to get someone up to speed on where the United States of America stands today. This book avoids left vs. right games and end of the world goldbuggery. The systemic solutions offered are both rational and thought provoking.
The reading level was accessible enough where I could recommend it to my friends and family without doubting they would understand the material. The style is toned down from his high octane blog which means I can share this with more verbally conservative friends. This book is concise which is nice since I like to get through books quickly.
Karl Denninger knocks this out of the park.
