Publisher Description

Josh Wilcox is a thirty-something single dad looking for love (or at least some half-decent sex) in his post-divorce world. He’s dragging along some hefty baggage (a murdered child will have that effect), but on the scales of life he’s probably tipping more toward the positive side than the negative.

He discovers that dating has changed a lot since the last time he was single, and that finding a good woman, even with the questionable help of online dating, is a serious pain in the ass.

After a handful of dates that could give the Apocalypse a run for its money, he meets Pam. She’s cute, funny, enjoys sex (always a plus), and is (thank God) mentally stable. She has some baggage of her own, but at least manages to brush her hair. He’s not thrilled about how far away she lives, but then life’s full of little compromises.

Finally, it seems his luck is changing.

Then he learns the hard way that one of the women he dated is an honest-to-God sociopath who’s neither forgotten nor forgiven him.

Damn. Something always comes along to screw up a good thing.

Entertaining

Life Line by David Forbes is an inside look at what life is like for a 30- or 40-something guy navigating the complex and confusing world of dating and relationships in the 21st century. It's written in a casual, conversational style, so you almost feel as if you're sitting and having a beer with the main character, Josh, as he recounts his tales of woe to his best buddies. The story provides an intimate look at the inner workings of the mind of a man; be forewarned that this involves explicit details of sexual encounters. But more importantly, it explores things like work/life balance, issues surrounding ex-spouses and shared custody of children, and sorting through the mess known as online dating. Depending on what side of the social spectrum of dating you fall, you'll either say, "Yeah, I've been there!" or "Woah, I had no idea what people like this have to go through!" But either way, you'll find it a real page-turner.

Fascinating

The writing is terrific, although there are some story lines that leave the reader wanting more. Ultimately, a fascinating study on modern day romance. Reading a relationship story from the male perspective, written by a talented male writer, makes this a must read, and earns it 4 stars on my chart.
