But it turns out that the infamously hard-partying Keef is also an art collector, a voracious reader, and the author of one of the all-time great musical autobiographies. Life is a deeply personal remembrance of how a nice middle-class English boy fell under the spell of rhythm and blues in the early ’60s and joined what turned out to be one of the biggest rock bands ever. Sure, the book includes tales of his lengthy drug addiction and stories about his decades-long love-hate relationship with Mick Jagger. But what you’ll remember most is the musician’s undying love for his family and for classic blues—the two topics closest to his heart. This is an unexpectedly warm and witty read.

Johnny Depp and Joe Hurley capture Richards's rock 'n' roll spirit in a wise, charming, and textured narration of the famed guitarist's memoir. Tracing Richards's trajectory from boyhood in England through the formation of the Stones to the band's rise to world domination, this audiobook is chock-full of frank revelations and enlightening stories behind the music. The three readers do superb turns but the seemingly arbitrary switches between them can be jarring and confusing. Depp's narration is steady, well-paced, clear, and grounded. He produces a delicious range of voices for dialogue (most notably a drunk judge in Arkansas), and Richards himself sounds a bit like an elderly, bluesy Jack Sparrow. Hurley captures the voice of Richards throughout, narrating in a gritty, growl that is spot-on. And sections read by Richards are a real treat; his raspy voice is unmistakable and haunting. Thank you for allowing us into the inner circle of this brilliant musician. This would be a must read for lovers of music. I have always been a huge Richards fan; seeking out his voice wherever I might find it.
Strangely enough; for me, the one thing that stood out in this narrative is the love that Mick Jagger must have for Keith Richards. Anyone who has had to work closely with a drug addict knows this can be a soul warping endeavor. Mr. Jagger seems to have been as devoted as one can be to a friend who has such demons. I certainly hope Keefy feels the love.
Simply put the best Rock-n-Roll book ever produced
Keith's honesty and story telling makes for a compelling book that's impossible to put down. This is a must read especially if happen to appreciate the greatest band of all time!
