The Book of Jonah contains only fifty-eight verses, but those few verses include a storm at sea, the conversion of sailors, a miraculous rescue, a song of praise, the repentance of Israel’s archenemy and an intensely honest dialogue between Yahweh and Israel’s most reluctant prophet.


Contrary to popular opinion the Book of Jonah is not a story about a whale.  This short but powerful book is about God’s disruptive, relentless and amazing grace.  This book issues a call to anyone who wants comfort, not challenge; anyone who wants to see his enemies crushed, not converted, and anyone who longs for God’s grace in his own life, but not in the life of others.  More than anything, the Book of Jonah reveals the heart of God for rebellious people and prophets alike.
