Lights Off for Turtles‪!‬

This bright, informative picture book celebrates sea turtles and shows how small steps make a big difference in protecting hatchlings.

During spring and summer when turtles are nesting, it’s lights off for turtles.

At nightfall, a group of wildlife experts traverse the dunes of a Florida beach, keeping an eye out for nesting turtles and hatchling tracks. They show how the mothers nest where it’s darkest so that their hatchlings can easily follow the glowing starlight to the sea. But when light from apartment buildings and towns lure and confuse baby turtles and strand them on land, there’s a simple solution: lights off!

Upbeat, inspiring, and full of sea turtle facts from renowned scientist and conservationist Carl Safina, Lights Off for Turtles celebrates the life cycles of these miraculous creatures from hatchlings to seafarers, and shows how humans can help safeguard their journeys by taking small steps to keep beaches dark and skies clear.
