Are we the serpent or the pomegranate?
I wanted to write a review to be the antithesis of the one I read before I read this book. Very true that this book is not representative of what’s in The Bible. It’s a work of fiction. Why is woman written to be submissive in The Bible? How is Adam born of God when only women can give birth? Well. Those are great questions and one that work of FICTION tries to answer. I have always felt that women’s stories were not told to our advantage in any religion that has survived the modern world. This is a work of fiction, but it answers important questions of why and how women have been omitted from The Bible, a tale hobbled together by MEN and not by GOD. I was raised a Catholic but always wondered how Jesus could be described so many ways by His own followers. Anyone else think that’s weird? This novel starts well before that and continues after, but it poses important questions for women: are we equals or are we “helpmeets”? Why would God want us to be servants when only we can bring forth life? Why would we think ourselves subservient to men? Is it God or is it men we please when we take a place behind men? I think these are important questions to ask. Maybe these are problematic for men or for people in power, but women do need to reclaim some power in this world. The only people who are served by our servitude are men.

Head-scratching
The premise of this book could not be stupider. Through its deliriously feminist fever dream, it reimagines biblical events and historical occurrences in a shallow and narrow context. Actual history, including biblical stories, are mangled ruthlessly in pursuit of this forced narrative. The truth is buried beneath the cascade of outright falsity which makes up this story. Don’t bother reading it- or at least don’t bother reading the whole thing. Your time is more valuable than this.
