Limitless

Limitless is both a beautiful and strange word. The beauty is found in its definition: without end, limit, or boundary. You may find it strange once you realize that it is a compound word (words formed when two or more words are put together to form a new word with new meaning). Let that sink in for just a moment. The word limitless is formed by combining two words—each with their own meanings—but when the words meet, they form a new word whose identity is separate from both. To better understand what you are seeing, perhaps it’s best if you see the definition of the singular words limit and less. Let’s look at a simple dictionary.com search for these two words. Limit: 1. A point or level beyond which something does not or may not extend or pass; 2. A restriction on the size or amount of something permissible (permitted; allowed) or possible (able to be done; within the power or capacity of someone or something); 3. A point or value that a sequence, function, or sum of a series can be made to approach progressively, until it is as close to the point or value as desired. Less: 1. A smaller amount of; not as much—fewer in number; 2. Of lower rank or importance—far from; certainly not; 3. Before subtracting (something); minus.


No combination of any of the singular word definitions can create the definition of the compound word. And if you’re anything like me, you might be asking: isn’t there already a word that exists without combining two words that could get you the same result? Unlimited: not limited or restricted in the terms of number, quantity, or extent. If you are indeed like me, then you too are wrong. By definition, unlimited says, I won’t restrict you in number, quantity, or extent. I won’t restrict you, but here are the things that I won’t restrict you in. Limitless says, I am beyond what you can think, beyond what you can do, beyond what you can see, beyond what you can ask—beyond you. Limitless, in its very existence, is a spiritual word. It is a Corinthians 5:17 word: “Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new” (KJV). It is an Ephesians 3:20 word: “Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us” (KJV). It’s a word that beckons to be used by the believer, because if you can wrap your head around the concept of limitless, then you can see that GOD is able to produce an infinite amount of possibilities in your life. HE is not at all restricted in any way.
