Publisher Description
This is the magical story of Princess Emma's enchanted garden. Princess Emmeline of Thomas River would escape to her secret garden each sunny afternoon, careful as she does, not to be seen by her siblings. She forged a beautiful relationship with the creatures of her paradise - a glass butterfly, a golden chrysalis, and a bee. Upon arrival, she would perch herself upon a rock in the shade of a giant toadstool 'tree'. The butterfly would tell her the stories of its travels from the Cape to Gabon in search of its birthplace. These stories reminded Princess Emma of her own favorite bedtime story which was told to her by her grandma, Iso. That was the true story of her forbears - the history of the Pig & Whistle Inn in Bathurst and its owner, prominent hotelier, one Thomas Hartley, the Yorkie. There was also the story of her great-grandaunt, Annie Petty, who was prim, proper, and oh so pretty, as well as that of a well-known Geordie, named Oliver. They too had traveled thousands of kilometers across rough seas, to settle in South Africa. Many wondrous splendours would take place in the garden and once Princess Emma had commanded the flowers to bloom, a plume of golden clouds would escape, the sun would warmly caress the meadow flowers and a rainbow would dazzle on the horizon!
