Frances Hodgson Burnett is widely known for her children’s stories, in particular Little Lord Fauntleroy, A Little Princess and The Secret Garden.
The story takes place in the mid-1880s. Young Cedric Errol lives with his mother in New-York in poverty after death of his father. One day an English lawyer named Haversham visited them with a message from Cedric’s grandfather, the Earl of Dorincourt. Cedric now inherits the title of Lord Fauntleroy, the Earldom and a vast estate.
The Fauntleroy suit, described by Burnett and released in drawings created a major fashion of dress for American middle-class children till the turn of the 20th century.
