An epic tale across the realms. A deadly power that spans millennia. A story of struggle and betrayal, this adventure is told through the patchwork past of Marvel's most misunderstood mischief-maker of all time: Loki: Trickster. God of Asgard. Brother. This is the first of three young adult novels from New York Times best-selling author Mackenzi Lee that explores the untapped potential of popular characters in the Marvel Universe. The novels focus on exploring the duality of heroism in specific character stories from the Marvel Universe.
One does not have to be a Marvel film franchise fan to enjoy this action-packed, emotionally resonant origin story of trickster deity and sorcerer Loki. Through a deep dive into the sibling rivalry between Thor and Loki, Lee (The Gentleman's Guide to Vice and Virtue) traces Loki's sometimes-questionable choices to his attempt to win over their father Odin and be seen as a true contender for the Asgardian throne. Upon peering into the Godseye Mirror during the Royal Feast of Gullveig, Odin sees what he believes to be a treasonous act by one of his sons. The vision sets off a series of events that leads to the mirror's destruction and the banishment of Loki's only friend \nsorcerer's apprentice Amora, who has been teaching Loki to use his magic, is sent to Midgard (Earth), where magic does not exist. After a series of magically induced murders plagues London, Loki goes to help and prove that he can be trusted. Lee's Loki is a complicated young man trying to define who he is as distinct from his family, something that many young people can relate to, and while Lee does not skimp on the fun a fabulous party, flirty and witty dialogue she also clarifies that it is not individual acts that determine whether someone is good or bad. The only thing I wish it included was what happens to Amora after she jumps off the train
So much fun!!
This was awesome! I wish it was a series. Loki is a fabulous character and I would love to go on many more adventures with him and Thor. I heard Tom Hiddleston’s Loki in every word, pictured him with every line! Great writing and a really fun story!!! This author knows her Asgardians!! I found myself literally laughing out loud quite a few times! Loved Loki and Thor’s banter! I couldn’t put it down!!!! I hope she writes more with these great characters!!
Great book. It was full of twist and turns and Loki, as usual, was his trickster self in a story that showed alot of character growth. There where plenty of marvel references to enjoy however understanding them wasn't mandatory to understand the book. The ending chapters where especially great as they really showed the Loki we know and love. The very end seemed to fit in place with the movies spectacularly. This is a book I could read over and over again.
