We loved this charming and brilliantly executed memoir. After deciding an unloved job at Sotheby’s and its relentless stress isn’t for her, Kate MacDougall risks loved-one scoffing (and financial security) to start a dog-walking business aimed at London’s well-to-do pooches. The freedom, terror and exhilaration she feels escaping her 9-5 is captured across a series of unique, witty and outrageous chapters, all named after memorable dogs she’s walked. What feels most rewarding here is the honesty MacDougall writes with. She doesn’t paint her new life as a simple, breezy triumph—she talks openly about the isolation and loneliness of her new life and managing the self-doubt and panic that kicks in after taking such a seismic decision.
