Publisher Description
In USA TODAY Bestselling author Pamela Aares' LOVE BATS LAST, the baseball diamond isn't the only field for all-star player Alex Tavonesi; he also runs his family's prestigious vineyard. What he can't seem to run is his love life. He's closing in on the perfect vintage and the perfect game, but so far the perfect woman has eluded him.
Veterinarian Jackie Brandon is eluding her aristocratic past and memories of a soccer star who jilted her just before their wedding. She devotes herself to a marine mammal rescue center on the northern California coast, where hundreds of seals and sea lions are washing up dead.
A chance meeting in a midnight storm brings Alex and Jackie together to rescue a stranded whale. Watching her work, he realizes she's the passionate, courageous woman he thought he'd never find--he just has to overcome her deep distrust of jocks. Jackie’s passion and courage lead her to discover what's killing the sea mammals. The culprits want to silence her, and Alex is the only one standing in their way.

All a pure pleasure
This book touched me in a deep place while also keeping me on the edge of my seat. I loved the heroine Jackie's saucy Britishness and that Alex, the hero had to work to get through to her-- no cake walk romance! But the heat developing between these two very physical characters blew me away: she's a marine mammal vet who thinks nothing of wrangling a whale or a 600 pound sea lion and he's a major league All-Star who hits out of the park and has moves that beguile. I loved how the author brought the sheer physicality of their jobs into their romance! When Jackie and Alex finally get together, well I don't want to give anything away, let's just say it's hot and fabulous. The plot is unique and took me on a journey into the world of wine, marine animals and ocean life and baseball, all woven together in a tightly and beautifully written story. I want more of the Tavonesi clan! And more of the team. Going behind the scenes to get a glimpse of the camaraderie of the men of baseball was a thrill.
