Publisher Description

The Newbery Medal-winning author of Walk Two Moons, Sharon Creech, brings readers a story with enormous heart.

Love That Dog shows how one boy named Jack finds his voice with the help of a teacher, a pencil, some yellow paper, and of course, a dog. Written as a series of free-verse poems from Jack's point of view, this novel is perfect for kids and teachers, too.

Jack hates poetry. Only girls write it and every time he tries to, his brain feels empty. But his teacher, Miss Stretchberry, won't stop giving her class poetry assignments—and Jack can't avoid them. But then something amazing happens. The more he writes, the more he learns that he does have something to say.

"I guess it does
look like a poem
when you see it
typed up
like that."

Um

Ok so it’s a good book. I will say that. I have some drama in my class about it tho the teachers wanted us to read it and they gave us three weeks and we all (the good readers basically) finished in like 20 mins. It was good and sad. Anyway, they got angry and said we hadn’t fully grasped the book in reading it so quickly, and they made us summarize it. I think if you buy it you should get a tangible copy vs one online, but overall a good read.

AWESOME!!!!

This book is more like a poem book. For readers who like to read poems a lot more than story’s, with crowded words all over the page. Its a more suttle (idk how to spell that word) book with not a lot of action, like action magazines.

Now let’s actually talk about the book. The book talks about a boy in class, and they’re making poems. It also talks about other poems and how he feels about them. It doesn’t contain any violent visuals like blood, gore or anything so it’s age appropriate.

Overall, it’s a short story. You could read it in like 10-15 minutes (idk how long it actually takes). Also in the back of the book it has the poems he talks about if your unaware of the poems. In conclusion, this book is like (8-11) age range.
