Publisher Description
Return to the seductive—and dangerous—world of J.R. Ward’s Black Dagger Brotherhood as the fever rises in the war between the vampires and slayers…
John Matthew has come a long way since he was found living among humans, his vampire nature unknown to himself and to those around him. After he was taken in by the Brotherhood, no one could guess what his true history was—or his true identity. Indeed, the fallen Brother Darius has returned, but with a different face and a very different destiny. As a vicious personal vendetta takes John into the heart of the war, he will need to call up on both who he is now and who he once was in order to face off against evil incarnate...and rescue his one true love.
PUBLISHERS WEEKLY
New or casual readers of the Black Dagger Brotherhood series will be lost in its eighth installment (after 2009's Lover Avenged), but Ward's fans love her soap opera storytelling and are happy to forgive unpronounceable names and occasionally overeager tough talk (at a solemn wedding, " was smiling like a motherfucker"). Newly made vampire John Matthew vows to free his mate, the symphath Xhexania, from Lash, a paranoid coke addict who's transmuting into a nontemporal entity like his vampire-killer father, the Omega. Once freed, Xhexania joins the Brothers in battling the Omega, but refuses to acknowledge her emotional connection to John. Meanwhile, sexually promiscuous Qhuinn, shocked to find himself jealous when his cousin Saxton hooks up with flirtatious Blaylock, wonders whether he should have seduced Blay when he had the chance. Complicated subplots and tortured heroes abound, but attentive readers will love putting it all together.
Customer Reviews
Best one yet! My favorite!
This was my favorite! I had been waiting for the story of John and Xhex to continue. A richly woven story with more surprises to pull you deeper into the changing world of the Brotherhood.
Had a hard time getting through this one
I think the author tried so hard to make every little thing have meaning that she lost the flow of the main love story. The story could be cut by 30% and probably be a better read. This story was ponderous.
Lover mine
I could not put down any book in this series down from the second I started it. The sad part now is it is over, I want more!!! Thank you for your talent as a writer.
