Maggie Lynn Rivers-Miles finds herself in a difficult situation as her family ranch, which has been in her family for two centuries, is sold. On top of that, her seven-month marriage to Sam Miles, who used to work as a foreman at the Aurora, is strained because of his persistent habits of drinking and gambling. This behavior is a far cry from the man he presented himself to be for the past decade, both to Maggie's family and to Maggie herself.

Just five months ago, Sam rescued Maggie from her kidnapper, Matt Daniels. Sam whisked Maggie and her friend, Laura, away to Rosario, Mexico. Despite Maggie being seven months pregnant, Sam abandons them in a foreign country. Maggie must return to Texas to face Matt in court for her kidnapping. Ashamed by her poor choices, she must confront her old friends and her kidnapper alone.
