Publisher Description

David Gardener is a Professor of Revolutionary War History at the University of Virginia. His life since his divorce two years ago has primarily revolved around his two daughters and the success he has enjoyed in his career.  A quiet and unassuming man, David loves his garden, his daughters, and his privacy. Fearful of rejection or another relationship failure, he avoids romance completely. Buried deep in his psyche is the tormented little boy who was the victim of his father's inability to express love or acceptance for his only son.

When David meets the beautiful and talented Nate Reese the long buried spark of attraction awakens within him with frightening force.  His desire to form a relationship with the young associate producer is matched only by his fear of pursuing this new attraction.

But Nate possesses the kind of open and loving heart that David instinctively knows lead him to the healing and peace he so desperately needs. Struggling to find a way to safely connect to Nate, David is torn between the safety of solitude and the damaging consequences of embracing his needs.

Two men living on opposite sides of the country in two completely different worlds fight their way past external obstacles and profound inner doubts toward the love they both yearn to find.

Too many discrepancies

This was a good read if you can get past the discrepancies. The age of the kids vice the length of the marriage was “off”, not saying it wasn’t possible, but it definitely puts the MC in a bad light having left a wife with a newborn or possibly pregnant. Also, the MC’s age and the length of time from the divorce to the start of the story makes it unrealistic, especially considering the influence the father had on him. The father was said to be a superintendent in the beginning, then it was decided that he was deceased several chapters later… with no explanation of that. Considering the age of the MC, his father “should” be still alive as there doesn’t seem to be in health issues mentioned or an accidental death. The dad’s journal did not add up to the flashback of his father’s thoughts on homosexuality. Shouldn’t how he felt about that or finding out about that have been included? Was he actually secretly okay with homosexuality? At the end, with the dispute at the university, why wasn’t Rachel consulted, given her profession and their closeness? That would have kept it low key, and likely provided faster results on the MC’s end because she wouldn’t have made it public without his approval, but would have let them know he meant business. This would probably be a good one if the inconsistencies were fixed.
