“Maxwell mixes humor with meticulous characterization to create memorable stories.”
With Lyon’s Bride, New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Cathy Maxwell kicks off a wonderful historical romance series, The Chattan Curse—concerning a generational bane that ominously portends, “When a Chattan male falls in love, strike his heart with fire from above.” In this sensational marriage of convenience tale with a delightful twist, the so-called “Lord Lyon” is the latest family member cursed to eschew love or die. So he seeks a bride he does not love, only to be smitten by an English duke’s headstrong daughter, who compels him to dangerously tempt fate. Lyon’s Bride is the kind of lush and sensuous love story that will appeal not only to RITA Award nominee Cathy Maxwell’s legion of fans, but to the many devoted readers of Christina Dodd and Victoria Alexander as well.
Love overcomes superstition in this delightful first installment of the Chattan Curse Regency trilogy. Disowned widow Thea Martin has steadfastly and stubbornly made a name for herself and supported her young sons as a London matchmaker. When her childhood friend, Neal Chattan, Lord Lyon, attempts to hire her, she initially refuses, still bitter from his abrupt abandonment of their friendship and skeptical of his claim that he is cursed. Handsome Neal wants a bride he cannot love, for any Chattan male who falls in love dies soon afterward; he ditched Thea because he feared his feelings for her. Thea finally promises to help him find a wife, but doesn't anticipate that she and Lyon will resurrect their friendship as romance. Confused by the curse and her emotions, Thea must decide whether love can conquer all. Maxwell (A Seduction at Christmas) spins a pleasant, unchallenging tale perfect for new romance readers.
