Can these opposites turn up the heat… without burning down the house?
House-flipping sensation and YouTube star Maggie Nichols can’t wait to dig into her next challenge. Arriving in tiny Kinship, Idaho, with only a cot and a coffeemaker, Maggie is prepared to restore a crumbling Victorian mansion in four months or less. She has her to-do lists, her blueprints, and her team. What she doesn’t have is time for sexy, laid-back landscaper Silas Wright.
The man takes flirtation to a whole new level. And he does it shirtless…sometimes pants-less. He and his service school-dropout dog are impressively persistent. But she’s not interested in putting down roots. Not when fans tune in to watch her travel the country turning dilapidated houses into dream homes. A short-term fling on the other hand could fit nicely into her calendar. After all, Maggie remembers what fun is like. Vaguely.
As their summer gets downright steamy, Silas manages to demolish the emotional walls she’s spent years building, sending Maggie into a panic. He’s the wrench in her carefully constructed plans. With the end of the project looming, she has a decision to make. But how can she stay when her entire career is built on moving on?
This fun, frothy romance from Score (Things We Never Got Over) follows YouTube star Maggie Nichols, who flips houses for her channel without ever thinking about setting down roots of her own. Maggie's undaunted by the challenge posed by her latest project flipping an immense mansion in the middle of nowhere (aka Kinship, Idaho) but she definitely doesn't have time for "Hot Landscaper Guy" Silas Wright's flirtation (even if his dog charms her). Her to-do list is long and her desire to date is short. Hopeless romantic Silas isn't deterred; the moment he laid eyes on Maggie he was convinced she was "the one." Gleefully pushed together by their families (both biological and found), Maggie and Silas find time to romp around Kinship while finishing the house and solving a century-old local mystery. Through the endearing protagonists and their team of contractors, Score demonstrates a talent for writing strong characters who are smart, funny, and wildly appealing. The zippy dialogue and abundant humor will have readers hooked. Agent: Mark Gottlieb, Trident Media.
Great Summer read!
Once again Lucy Score masterfully creates a brand new world, a quaint small town in rural Idaho, ever so eloquently named Kinship. Our protagonists first meet as professional acquaintances when Maggie arrives to Kinship and starts meeting with contractors for an old Victorian house renovation to be featured on her successful YouTube show. Silas owns a local landscaping company and together with his dog Kevin makes a lasting first impression on Maggie.
This book has all the hallmarks of a bestseller - captivating story line, well developed characters, amazing community that rallies around their own, love, swoon, humor, intriguing mystery and meddling, well meaning family and best friends - that make for the most refreshing unputdownable experience you are sure to love!!! I definitely recommend to all contemporary romance enthusiasts as well as readers who love a great story.
Beautiful love story of Silas and Maggie
I loved the love story of Silas and Maggie. It was this beautiful gently flowing soul opening journey of all the things and all the feelings. It’s a life and joy affirming masterpiece cleverly disguised as a romcom. Maggie is a house fixer upper/flipper. Her construction show is on YouTube with almost a million followers. She works with her BF/ex-husband and has no home base and no village. She is a self-sufficient island surrounded by a brick wall camouflaged as competent independence.. Silas is the owner of Bitterroot Landscapes and is hired to help with Maggie’s latest project in quirky small town Kinship, Idaho. Silas believes that he has met his future wife the moment he sets eyes on Maggie and he tells her so which should be creepy and stalkerish but is really adorably dorky instead. Silas is the polar opposite of Maggie. He is all roots and all village. Silas and Maggie’s relationship and who they are is revealed in an organic manner as they spend time together fixing the Old Campbell place. The book has a little bit of everything - sweet moments, steamy scenes, strong friendships, supportive family, snort worthy laughs, painful pasts, adorable pets, a little mystery, and all the heart squeezing love. Experiencing the journey of Silas and Maggie as they fall in love and work through their individual issues (especially Maggie) gave me all the feels - you will definitely laugh, cry, swoon, cringe, cheer, and happy sigh. This story is a romantic comedy but it’s also a deeply emotional story about trust, finding your village and embracing the joy. “Success is only a very small part of life. That’s not how you find happiness. Because, at the end of the day, your quality of life is determined by the people you surround yourself with. The significant others, the partners, the sisters, the friends, the team you choose. The people who have your back. The people who celebrate your wins and mourn your losses with you. …it’s a truth that sooner or later we all forget. And it’s one we have to fight to remember.” This is a book you will remember.
What a fantastic book. I fell in love with Silas immediately, you pretty much don’t have a choice but to love him. Lol. And Maggie really needs a Silas in her life and he pretty much tells her that fact when they meet. And the side characters in this book are absolutely fantastic. I mean Kevin alone is a freaking hoot. Dean, Michael, Nirina, Kayla, Cody I mean the list goes on and on.
I loved the hint of mystery in this story as well. I enjoyed the history of the house that Maggie was renovating. I was hooked on this book from page 1 and luckily I had no plans for the day except to read this book, thank goodness because I did not want to put it down.
Oh and I seriously love Silas ;)
