Publisher Description
They had it wrong when they said with great power comes great responsibility. More like, great power comes with a target on your back.
And considering my bloodline is derived from one of the strongest witches in New Orleans' past, the target on my back is huge.
Of course, that's not how Mom explained it when she ripped us from our home in the Garden District and forced me to start a new school in the French Quarter—a place where my family isn't welcome. No, she said she was just 'trying to protect us from fanciful ideas.'
But now I'm being preyed on by vampires and haunted by a creepy, stalker ancestor in my head, and the only silver lining is Phillip, my could-be boyfriend. So why does Mom's boyfriend seem dead set on chasing him away?
Finding out is easier said than done with the devil in the work sleeping under the same roof, but if I don't, it will be more than life as I know it crashing down around me. It'll be the supernatural world swallowing me whole.
This fast-paced, action-packed, young adult paranormal coming-of-age adventure, about a New Orleans, magical bloodline family, is ideal for fans of The Bane Chronicles and The Originals.

Good book
Great start to a new series. I love the complex characters and the interactions between them. The world the story is set in is complex and vivid as well. I can’t wait to see where the story goes from here.
Frustrating
Spoiler:
Miri had a bad run in with vampires but still refused to believe they were actually vampires. Even when they bit her neck, she was like “oh, they’re pretending to be vampires, and they have really sharp nails.” She even saw a vampire draining blood from someone’s neck and assumed it was pretend 🤦♀️ Hence, the whole time I was reading the book, I kept wanting to scream at Miri “How stupid can you be?!”
Another frustrating thing is that the second time she hangs out with the love interest, she tells him she has trust issues, and he says he wants to earn her trust. I just don’t understand how they bonded that fast, but maybe that’s just me.
List of annoying things:
It’s annoying Miri keeps things from her sister, Bell.
It’s annoying Mike keeps things from Miri.
It’s annoying that the step dad is trying to act they’re all family when they don’t even know each other.
It’s annoying the mom is so stupid.
Plot hole: how is it possible for so many annoying people to live under the same house?
It should be noted that I didn’t finish the book, so maybe the end makes up for everything. I guess I will never know.
Magical Miri
Very well written as a story, but desperately needs a proofreader! The story itself was quite wonderful and I have already preordered the rest of the books in the series so I’m anxiously awaiting Bewitchung Belle right now. Things are spelled correctly, sentences just have the entirely wrong word at times which leaves you going “Huh?” You have to go back and reread it until you figure out what word the author had intended to put there. Sounds like not a big deal but when you’re in the flow of a story and run into that, a few times it can really be off putting and boot you right out of the immersive-ness of the book.
