A worthy pupil . . . A dangerous quest
To the forest on the shore of the Kingdom of the Isles, the orphan Pug came to study with the master magician Kulgan. But though his courage won him a place at court and the heart of a lovely Princess, he was ill at ease with the normal ways of wizardry.
Yet Pug's strange sort of magic would one day change forever the fates of two worlds. For dark beings from another world had opened a rift in the fabric of spacetime to being again the age-old battle between the forces of Order and Chaos.

Overall a good story, and I’m ready for the next one!
I’m an avid Stephen King fan, and I’ve rarely read much else. My wife has been reading some fantasy books, and I thought I’d try something new. This book was recommended to me by a friend, and so I bought and read as an ebook.
Overall, I thought it was a good story with a good ending that has me excited to move to the next book. Some portions of the book were a little harder to get through, but I wonder if that was just me moving to a new author/genre. I thought the development for the main characters was pretty good, and there are a lot of details that I expected to be revealed as important, but didn’t get by the end of this one. Assuming those will be coming in the upcoming books.
I’m giving it 4 stars, because I didn’t finish it with a feeling of “WOW”. We’ll see what the next book brings.
Disappointing
A magician apprentice who performs only one magic spell the whole book and is gone for part of it. Kinda disappointing to be honest
One of my new favorite authors!!
Fantastic book! I have never read any of Raymond’s books before and happened to buy this one through a book bub deal notification. I could not put this book down and upon finishing it - bought 3 more of Raymond’s books. I am a fan!!!!
