Publisher Description
When shy Emily Hughes answers an advertisement for a mail-order bride, she isn't searching for romance—she's searching for a place to belong. With her mother's remarriage leaving her without a home and her work as a cook offering no future, Emily boards a train from Massachusetts to Minnesota to marry a widowed mercantile owner she has never met.
Benjamin Johnson never expected to love again. Still grieving the wife he lost, he sends for a bride only because his two little girls desperately need a mother. But the quiet young woman who arrives in Live Oak brings more than warm meals and fresh-sewn dresses. Emily offers patience, kindness, and a steady heart to a family still aching from loss.
Between a wary new husband, two daughters hungry for love, and a mother-in-law determined to prove she doesn't belong, Emily must find the courage to claim her place in a household built on memories of another woman. And Benjamin must decide whether his heart is too broken to open again—or whether his mail-order mama might become the wife he never knew he needed.
