Moses ben-Maimon, commonly referred to as Maimonides, was a Jewish philosopher, physician, and scholar of the Torah during the 12th century. He is considered one of the most influential Jewish philosophers of the Medieval Era. Born in Cordoba Spain in 1135, Maimonides and his family were forced out Cordoba by the conquering Almohads.  Maimonides briefly lived in Morocco, and then settled in Egypt.  He passed while in Egypt in 1204 A.D.
