Walter William Skeat was a British ethnographer and colonial civil servant in the Federated Malay States in the 1890s. *Malay Magic* (1900) is his ethnographic study of the folk religion, magical practices, and oral literature of the Malay peasantry, and has remained the foundational English-language ethnographic study of pre-modern Malay popular religion.
