Walter Farley, the creator of the Black Stallion, chronicles the mightiest racer ever seen on an American racetrack from his surging power and blistering speed to his overwhelming desire to run!
Here is the unofficial biography of the “red giant,” from the moment he was foaled through all of his racing triumphs. With his seamless storytelling, Farley tells the life story of the horse most horse lovers continue to regard as America’s greatest thoroughbred. Told through the eyes of a fictional stableboy, Danny Ryan, Farley makes the intricate world of the “Sport of Kings” accessible and exciting to horse lovers and racing fans of all ages.

Wonderful story about a magnificent horse!
I read this story in grade school. When the school library acquired new copies, the old copy was given to me because I had read it more than everyone else combined. It being a children's book, theoretically, you can imagine that I felt a bit silly downloading it from the iTunes store as a 50+ year old adult. Yet, when I saw that it was available, I simply couldn't resist. Amazingly, it reads as well now as it did all those years ago. Beautifully written, and the facts surrounding the magnificent horse, Man O' War, are very accurate. The main human character is fictional, but Walter Farley did a spectacular job telling the story of likely the greatest race horse ever. Sadly, many outside of racing have never heard of him. If you love horses, regardless of your age, this is a fine read. You won't regret it.
