A Short Story from the Preface

“Wake Up!” “Look up!” We were camping in a large open field. It was a hot night with clear skies, so we hadn’t bothered setting up the tents. “Whaaaa?”, I said, rubbing my eyes.
The night sky was filled with stars. More stars than I had ever seen. And some of them were moving. -- streaking across the sky like fireworks.
We watched for hours until dawn dimmed the show.
I was fifteen and stupid lucky. We had camped out on a clear night in an open field unwittingly at the peak of the Perseid meteor shower on Wednesday August 13, 1969.
Three weeks earlier Neil Armstrong had walked on the Moon.
    ------------------
In 1996 Robert Zubrin published the brilliant book, “The Case for Mars”. I was inspired to contact him and eventually help fund the founding of the Mars Society. Later, through my company, Flashline, I was able to act as a sponsor for the Flashline Mars Arctic Research Station.
    ------------------
Today I publish digital books. Here, thanks to the the brilliant work of the scientists at NASA I am proud to present “Mars: Road Trip”.

    I hope it inspires you.
