Interesting But Lacking
This book is interesting but lacking in several respects.
First, the recipes contain no nutritional information; that’s an automatic black mark for me. We’re living in an age where people are conscious of calories, fat, carbs and other nutrients. They should be left to figure out this information on their own.
Second, the content of the recipes is inconsistent. Some recipes have very clear and detailed directions; others are lacking in detail. For example, one recipe I looked at mentions baking until the pie top is browned but fails to give any instruction for placing a pastry top on the pie—is it the fillig that’s supposed to brown in an open-top pie or is a top crust that failed to get mentioned in the directions.
At a bargain price, I shouldn’t complain. But when I buy books such as this from the iBooks competitor and discover flaws such as these, I return them for a hassle-free refund. Sadly, that isn’t a possiblity with iBooks.
