BartholomeusAnglicus (English: Bartholomew the Englishman) (before 1203 – 1272) was anearly 13th-century scholastic scholar of Paris, a member of the Franciscanorder. He was the author of the compendium De proprietatibus rerum ("Onthe Properties of Things"), dated at 1240, an early forerunner of theencyclopedia and one of the most popular books in medieval times. Bartholomewalso held senior positions within the church and was appointed Bishop ofŁuków although he was not consecrated to that position.
