Publisher Description
Medium Raw marks the return of the inimitable Anthony Bourdain, author of the blockbuster bestseller Kitchen Confidential and three-time Emmy Award-nominated host of No Reservations on TV’s Travel Channel. Bourdain calls his book, “A Bloody Valentine to the World of Food and the People Who Cook,” and he is at his entertaining best as he takes aim at some of the biggest names in the foodie world, including David Chang, Alice Waters, the Top Chef winners and losers, and many more. If Hunter S. Thompson had written a book about the restaurant business, it could have been Medium Raw.
APPLE BOOKS REVIEW
Like a hearty sauce, Medium Raw complements Kitchen Confidential, enriching the late Anthony Bourdain’s mission to teach people the realities (and tricks) of the restaurant trade. He tempers his unflinching critiques of sacred cows—from Mark Bittman to Alice Waters—with deeply human empathy. While Bourdain’s dirt-dishing is gleefully entertaining, he’s at his best when he turns his gaze toward his own hypocrisies and everyday struggles, as in the chapter where he tries to figure out how to convince his toddler daughter to absorb his own loathing of McDonald's (hint: it involves bathroom words).
Customer Reviews
A variety of hot takes on many issues
Some great chapters (the fish butcher at Le Bernardin) and some lesser chapters (tirade against vegetarians). Always delivered in the snarky, vibrant style we’ve all come to love and expect. Miss him.
Worth every penny

Terrrrific
Enjoyed reading yet another of Anthony Bourdain’s books. Easy and fun reading in his own words. F’n good reads.
