The World Health Organization defines sexual health as “the integration of somatic, emotional, intellectual and social aspects, in ways that are positively enriching and that enhance personality, communication and love”.


Whichever the form of expression, sexual dysfunction is a disorder that has a great impact on public health. Although there is little information on its prevalence, this condition is known to affect both men and women worldwide.


In addition to the consequences of this disorder on sexuality, sexual dysfunction is often the first expression of a disease with an alarmingly increasing incidence: the metabolic syndrome. In fact, the increase in the number of cases of the metabolic syndrome is associated with a larger number of individuals with sexual dysfunction. These two clinical conditions, which are becoming more and more important worldwide, should be diagnosed and treated in time.
