Publisher Description

Michelangelo was born on March 6, 1475, in Caprese, Italy. He was considered as the most famous artist of the Italian Renaissance. He was a sculptor, painter, architect and poet. He had a remarkable career as an artist. He created many statues and painted a lot of pictures, but the most famous of all are "David" and "Pieta" statues, and the Sistine Chapel frescoes. After a brief illness, he died on February 18, 1564, at his home in Macel de'Corvi, Rome.

This book is a translation of the original “Vita di Michaelangelo Buonarroti”, written his student Ascanio Condivi.

The book is divided into two parts. The first part deals with the life of Michael Angelo, as described by Condivi. The second part gives an overview of the works of this famous Italian artist, including details of their fashioning, which might help in realizing the mystery of their production.

At the end of the book are included three dialogues on painting from Francisco D'Ollanda, a Portuguese miniature painter, who was in Rome in 1538.
