A USA Today Bestseller!
Portals and danger, and a girl who can find both in the next book in the Hugo and Nebula Award–Winning Wayward Children series from Seanan McGuire.
Antsy is the latest student to pass through the doors at Eleanor West's School for Wayward Children.
When the school’s (literally irresistible) mean girl realizes that Antsy's talent for finding absolutely anything may extend to doors, Antsy is forced to flee in the company of a small group of friends, looking for a way back to the Shop Where the Lost Things Go to be sure that Vineta and Hudson are keeping their promise.
Along the way, they will travel from a world which hides painful memories that cut as sharply as its beauty, to a land that time wasn’t yet old enough to forget—and more than one student's life will change forever.
Mislaid in Parts Half-Known is a story that reminds us that getting what you want doesn't always mean finding what you need.

The Conclusion of Antsy’s Story and a Prehistoric World Side Trip
“Mislaid in Parts Half-Known” is the newly released ninth novella in Seanan McQuire’s Wayward Children Series. These have clearly become the ultimate portal fantasy series for modern readers. In these novellas, certain children and or young adults find impossible doorways to places they need, or that need them. Sometimes they return to our world, sometimes they go back. Some of those that come back end up at the Eleanor West’s Home for Wayward Children, where they find a beneficial and nurturing environment. Eleanor West’s is where this novella both begins and ends.
The novella starts with the protagonist of the previous novella, Antionette Ricci (Antsy for short) being pursued by certain other students at Eleanor West’s for her ability to find lost things. They work out that she could possibly find doors for them, so they could go wherever it is they want to be. Kade, Christopher, Sumi, Emily, and Cora conspire to save her from those who wish to use her. Unfortunately, they become cornered and to escape Antsy finds a door…
This story takes us back to the Shop of Lost Things, and completes Antsy’s story. Along the way we visit a prehistoric world. I don’t think that’s much of a spoiler since there’s dinosaurs on the cover illustration.
These stories are modern and inclusive fairy tales, with which readers from the 21st century can relate. I’m now looking forward to the next installment in the series, which does not appear to have been concluded as of yet.
