Mock Tests of Chinese Character Usage Ability Vol. 2

By Tianming Li, Ph.D. in Chinese, this Mock Tests of Chinese Character Usage Ability 汉字应用水平测试模拟试题集 (afterwards the Mock Tests) is compiled according to the Chinese Character Usage Ability Assessment and Testing Guideline 汉字应用水平等级及测试大纲, issued by the Education Ministry of China and China's National Language Work Committee in 2006 and put in tentative practice in 2007. This assessment 汉字应用水平测试or HZC launched by Chinese government aims at improving Chinese language proficiency for Chinese language learners. 

The Mock Tests are divided into 8 volumes and 56 sets of tests, with each set of test containing 130 questions to test writing, pronunciation, and usage of 5,500 Chinese characters. These 5,500 characters listed in the Assessment and Testing Guideline are divided into 3 levels: 4,000 at level 1 (most commonly used), 500 at level 2 (second commonly used), and 1,000 at level 3 (not commonly used).
