Modern Blanket Toss

Engaging Underserved Students in STEM Fields Through Unmanned Aerial Vehicles

Publisher Description

The Modern Blanket Toss (MBT) project helps a cohort of low-income, prospective first-generation college students in five rural Alaskan high schools to develop interest in STEM fields. The project is a three-part program of science education built around: 1) cutting-edge STEM technologies, in this case, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs); 2) science communication and leadership skills; and 3) community involvement. The project’s goal is to demonstrate how to better expose underrepresented students to STEM careers, prepare them for higher education, and promote a scientific contribution to their communities.

This is the last book in the series. It includes the evaluation findings from each of the three years, as well as observations and analysis from participants.

The Modern Blanket Toss project was funded by the National Science Foundation (Award number 1348413) and awarded to the University of Alaska Fairbanks.
