Monuments of Bucharest

The title – Bucharest Monuments – is relevant as I try to accurately describe the capital’s modern history through its defining monuments. Thus, the history of architecture, sculpture, gardens and parks is harmoniously combined with aforetime mentalities and mores. Our historical and sentimental journey through Bucharest includes churches and monasteries, which people started building along Dâmboviţa river ever since the beginning of urban settling. The bookish trip we take along the metropolis’ monuments does not include palaces and mansions in modern and interwar Bucharest, as they shall be presented in an individual work.

The current album also wishes to serve as a tourist guide of our capital, which is why I chose to introduce you to lesser known monuments as well, not necessarily following the parisien pattern: the book includes a number of traditional Romanian buildings, some of which contributed to the outlining of Bucharest’s makeover at the turn of the XXth century.
