From her girlhood in Hell’s Kitchen to her success as a celebrated musician, Alicia Keys’ story is best experienced through her own words. In this honest, intimate memoir, Keys offers a wealth of thoughtful reflection on her life so far. Every moment she recounts hits hard, like an upsetting encounter with a photographer when she was a teen and the story about how she rushed to sign the first recording contract she was offered, simply because it came with a baby grand piano. The most moving parts of this book are the moments when Keys contemplates complex and emotional issues like what it means to be an artist and her identity as a Black woman. More Myself will leave you in awe of everything she’s been through and everything she’s achieved.

it’s good to read some pure truth, some real story and not masks and superficialities
she inspires me to be a better version of myself and if you let her, she’ll inspire you too
Enjoyable
A really great read. In particular at the beginning where she shares the story of her childhood and teenage years and how she started in the industry. There are parts toward the middle where there’s a little too much description for things that are already public knowledge such as the movie Coming to America or how they judged on the Voice. Those pages felt like fillers.
Overall I appreciated the sharing of her journey and how she arrived at the core of who she is as a woman and an artist. A lot of her story resonated with me.
