Publisher Description

Applying to combined BS/MD programs really, really stinks - unless you're guided by the right person. That's what Jayson - a student who got into some of the nation's top BS/MD programs at Brown, Caltech, and Penn State through countless nights of energy drinks - realized when he was in high school. This book fixes that. More Than Just BS is Jayson's unique, tested, foolproof plan to acing the apps for these crazily competitive medical programs. It's a resume-building preparation plan, a step-by-step guide to the application process, plus a safe haven for students: it's got checklists, summaries, clever shortcuts, sneaky tips, and tons of cheeky remarks.

Long summary

Ever wondered what Jersey Shore, Beyonce's music videos, and mothers-in-law have to do with getting into guaranteed medical programs? Ever wondered what you can start doing in middle school to prepare for the application process? Take a look inside and you'll find out. With his user-friendly, conversational tone and his own experiences with applying to these programs, Jayson takes you through:

An intro to these amazing programs that guarantee your admission to med school when you're a high school senior.
A preparation plan - from middle school through senior year of high school - loaded with secret tips on building your resume, picking the right schools, and more.
An entire unit devoted to gaming the application system and landing a seat in these programs - from professing your love for medicine in a 500-word essay to scoring points with your interviewer.

What's more, this book was made just for you - the student. Sparknotes addict? Great! There are summaries and checklists at the end of each chapter. Don't know where to begin? No worries! We've got sample essays, a sample resume, and a list of all BS/MD programs in the US to help you get started. Sick of reading Steinbeck in English class? You're in luck...we definitely make fun of Steinbeck at least once or twice in here.

Whether you've got 5 years, 5 months, or 5 days to apply, Jayson's personal advice and solid strategies will put you on track to submit a killer application. You might even have some fun reading this book, too. Trust me...it's no John Steinbeck.

Autobiography

Jayson Marwaha is a student in Brown University's Program in Liberal Medical Education - an 8-year combined BS/MD program. Given his natural disposition as a worrywart (he refuses to stop worrying about the ending of Inception until Inception 2 comes out to clear things up), he made a point to apply only to guaranteed medical programs. With his time in college he has managed to:

Found and run an NGO (and haughtily introduce himself as a daring "entrepreneur" at parties),
Write a book,
Study abroad,
Take weird classes,
Quickly pack well beyond a Freshman 15,
And just have a great time in college.

With his free time on Sunday mornings, in the cafeteria over a plate of gelatinous scrambled eggs, Jayson loves to read. His favorite work of fine American literature, you ask? ...well, this one.
