Moses

The great figure of Moses dominates the Old Testament. Vigorous debates on the historical figure of Moses are no longer at the forefront of research. Historians and theologians agree that the focus is on the symbolism of the patriarch and his relevance to identity. 

Moses was at the birth of Judaism and monotheism. The exodus of the Hebrews from Egypt, headed for the Promised Land, enshrines a political renewal also. Iconoclast and liberator, a witness to the impossibility of knowing God, Moses has held a fascination for great thinkers throughout the ages and, in particular, for those of the 20th century.
