Publisher Description
From New York Times bestselling author of Archer’s Voice comes a slow burn, grumpy sunshine romance about finding the courage to move forward when the past has torn you apart, perfect for fans of Colleen Hoover and Lucy Score.
Crystal learned long ago that love brings only pain. Feeling nothing at all is far better than being hurt again. She guards her wounded heart behind a hard exterior and carries within her a deep mistrust of men, who, in her experience, have only ever used and taken.
Then Gabriel Dalton walks into her life. Despite the terrible darkness of his past, there's an undeniable goodness in him. And even though she knows the cost, Crystal finds herself drawn to Gabriel. His quiet strength is wearing down her defenses and his gentle patience is causing her to question everything she thought she knew.
Crystal and Gabriel never imagined that the world, which had stolen everything from them, would bring them a deep love like this. Except fate will only take them so far, and now the choice is theirs: Harden their hearts once again or find the courage to shed their painful pasts.
PUBLISHERS WEEKLY
In this gimmicky romance, bestseller Sheridan (Archer's Voice) unites two individuals who have experienced so much tragedy that their combined anguish may exhaust the reader. Ellie lost her beloved mother at an early age and was foisted on a father who had never known she existed and preferred it that way. Escaping at 18 from his insufficient protection, she is now a beautiful but wary young woman known as Crystal. While working as a stripper (Sheridan emphasizes that she had no choice but to pursue this career path), she has developed the necessary shell to survive. Then preternaturally handsome Gabriel appears in the strip club and makes an unusual request: he wants to hire Crystal to help him tolerate being touched so he can have a relationship with a woman. Gabriel's backstory is as horrific as hers: he was kidnapped as a child, locked in a basement, and tortured for years until he managed to kill his assailant to escape. Somehow, he has achieved a fairly normal adult life. Crystal is initially unwilling to participate in his experiment, afraid of being made to experience feelings herself, but circumstances force her to rely on Gabriel, and they fall in love quickly. Gabriel is brave and wants to move forward with his life; Crystal struggles with doubt and does not believe she deserves anything good. This novel often reads like a sappy, overwrought TV movie, but some readers who like seeing lost souls find each other and emerge stronger may enjoy it.

Mushy
I rarely read romance titles but when I do; I’m looking for something inspirational and a good pick me up- this fit the bill: super dramatic and mushy af, but held my attention and I devoured this book in a couple days. A book about rising up just as much as it is about romance, and you will root for main characters even if they are a lil over the top. I say read it.
Beautiful Healing story
I resonated so much with the two main characters in this book. Experiencing trauma as a child has left me healing as an adult. I struggle to put my pain into words or to understand myself/my worth. I felt the characters pain as my own. The struggles that they experienced to put themselves back together allowed me to see myself and my struggle through a different perspective. Very eye opening and inspiring. I know that it’s a fictional story but I feel like this story made me believe that it’s still possible to be normal after trauma. I also read it during a dark time in my healing journey. I didn’t know what I needed to fix me and I felt hopeless so I read this book to take my mind off of everything. Turns out this book was exactly what I needed.
Nothing compared to archers voice
I was so excited to read this book and give it a try anyway but if you read archers voice just leave it at that bc this point will disappoint, i felt no chemistry between the characters at first i kind of got it bc they both have traumatic pasts so they kinda have to help each other get through their problems but i don’t know i just didn’t connect with the characters.
