UNDERSTAND, not just LEARN
That is the motto of the book series "Graphically Enhanced Manuals" (GEM). They're a new type of manual with a visual approach that helps you UNDERSTAND a program, not just LEARN it. No need to read through 500 of pages of dry text explanations. Rich graphics and diagrams help you to get that "aha" effect and make it easy to comprehend difficult concepts. The Graphically Enhanced Manuals help you master a program much faster with a much deeper understanding of concepts, features and workflows in a very intuitive way that is easy to understand

Fantastic Way to Learn the Apple Pro Apps
I already owned 4 of Edgar's graphically enhanced manuals as PDF's, but wow, his reformatting of the guides in the iBooks format is a surprising improvement on an already terrific way to learn the Apple pro apps. I'm hooked and ready for the Motion 5.1 iBook.
I Feel Cheated
So wow, it looks like I'm the only one from all the other reviews! I found this book to be very amateur (not FOR amateurs, but MADE by an amateur). This whole "Graphically Enhanced Manual" thing is a bad direction for learning. The author says that he actually purposed to keep your hands off of the application as long as possible. Instead of touching Motion itself with a guided tour and instruction, we spend dozens of pages listening to the author ramble about file extensions! A very large part of this book is filler. It's as if the author really doesn't want to teach the subject, so he tries to find anything else he can possibly talk about to extend the length of this boring and largely unhelpful book. Do not waste $9.00. Just go get Mark Spencer's book and actually enjoy learning Motion right from the start.
Much more visual
I also have the official training book for Motion 5 from Mark Spencer (which is great), but this "graphically enhanced manual" explains this deep and complex program much more visual which helped me as the beginning tremendously to understand this app and also the whole motion graphic aspect of it
