moving together

Publisher Description

A series of pictures taken form 2009-2013, on mass transit systems from a few different places, but mostly on the NYC subway. Walker Evans, an American photographer, covered a similar subject in 1938 and published a collection of the work titled Many are Called in 1966. I drew a big inspiration from these images, which were shot  with a camera covered by his coat. Almost the same expressions can be found on todays straphangers. As I ride the train everyday I see these faces pass me by. Some sad some fine some happy some blind. I stopped using my “big” camera as it became to noticeable and the pictures began to look staged, almost static. My phone became the tool I choose to capture small moments in peoples travels. Some move towards a job or a home, some are escaping and others entering, There are endless expressions on the faces of those who move together.
