Publisher Description
This brief opera, comprised of only two scenes by Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov, was published in 1898 to a Russian libretto taken almost verbatim from Aleksandr Pushkin's dramatic verse, written in 1830. It describes the competitive relationship between Mozart and Salieri and implies that Salieri actually poisoned the composition, a hypothesis not supported by modern scholarship.
