A kind of zoetrope
Each of the 117 short chapters is a beautifully-composed snapshot. Together, they’re the movie of a life, not in wide-screen technicolor, but something more intimate and remarkable. Evan Connell made a genius choice of form. Check this out!
Out of the park
As soon as the last page was turned, I began to read again. It’s that well-written. There are so many passages, some just a few words, others a few sentences, that one has to read again.
