Publisher Description
Mrs. Plansky's Revenge is bestselling author Spencer Quinn's first novel in a new series since the meteoric launch of Chet and Bernie--introducing the irresistible and unforgettable Mrs. Plansky, in a story perfect for book clubs and commercial fiction readers.
Mrs. Loretta Plansky, a recent widow in her seventies, is settling into retirement in Florida while dealing with her 98-year-old father and fielding requests for money from her beloved children and grandchildren. Thankfully, her new hip hasn’t changed her killer tennis game one bit.
One night Mrs. Plansky is startled awake by a phone call from a voice claiming to be her grandson Will, who desperately needs ten thousand dollars to get out of a jam. Of course, Loretta obliges—after all, what are grandmothers for, even grandmothers who still haven’t gotten a simple “thank you” for a gift sent weeks ago. Not that she's counting.
By morning, Mrs. Plansky has lost everything. Law enforcement announces that Loretta's life savings have vanished, and that it’s hopeless to find the scammers behind the heist. First humiliated, then furious, Loretta Plansky refuses to be just another victim.
In a courageous bid for justice, Mrs. Plansky follows her only clue on a whirlwind adventure to a small village in Romania to get her money and her dignity back—and perhaps find a new lease on life, too.

PUBLISHERS WEEKLY
Edgar winner Quinn (a pseudonym for Peter Abrams, author of the Chet and Bernie mysteries) launches a new series with this sprightly adventure featuring 71-year-old Loretta Plansky, a rich Florida widow. She and her husband, Norm, made millions by inventing the toaster knife (a device that toasts bread as it slices), and she now spends her days playing tennis, dealing with the expensive rest home that cares for her 98-year-old father, and shrewdly sidestepping investment pitches from her grown children. Late one night, Loretta receives a phone call from someone claiming to be her beloved grandson, who says he's been arrested for driving while intoxicated and needs bail money. Loretta turns over her bank details, and the following morning, discovers that all of her accounts have been cleaned out. The FBI tells her there's nothing they can do to retrieve the three million dollars she's lost: their only clue is that the perpetrators are located in the small village of Alba Gemina, Romania. With financial pressure mounting, Loretta sets off for Romania herself, determined to shake down the criminals who took her frailty for granted. Mrs. Plansky is a wonderfully memorable heroine, full of wit and equally plausible as an ace tennis player and a motorcycle-driving detective with Romanian gangsters hot on her tail. Readers will be eager to see what Mrs. Plansky gets up to next.

cozy
Spencer Quinn is the author of many books, but this is the first I have read from them. This is a cozy mystery book with some crime, adventure and a bit of thrill. Our main character is Mrs. Loretta Plansky, a 70 something year old women who lives in Florida. She is a widow, but her father and grandchildren are still alive. One of them, Will, seemingly calls her asking for a lot of money. However this turns out to be a scam and she loses everything. On the journey to fight back against this scam she finds new meanings for life. I really liked the plot line of this because I've heard horror stories of this, it's something that actually happens and isn't all that rare. But though it's a real life scary topic, it's an enjoyable read. I enjoyed being on the journey with Mrs. Plansky. If you like cozy mysteries I would recommend, I will be looking to read more
