Cracking good story
Clever dénouement. Upholds the trope that it’s the least likely person to have done it.
Well drawn, consistent characterizations. Intriguing cast of characters, neither too large nor too small.
The premise is rather a stretch, that the heroine, Maggie, would go on a reunion with people she didn’t even like in high school. And then she realizes she REALLY doesn’t like them!
She left a “handsome hunk” of a husband at home, in charge of a difficult child, Amélie. It bothered me, as a former French teacher, that the child’s name was misspelled as Amèlie throughout the entire book. If you’re going to write a book about a certain culture, you should have someone who knows that language check all spellings.
Poorly edited. The name of one character was even spelled differently within the same sentence! There were some strange omissions of words within or at the ends of sentences, and the usual confusion between similar-sounding words (stationary for stationery, e.g.)
I enjoyed the story, although I thought it was overly long with the addition of the Zhou Zhou subplot. And only in fiction can a protagonist be so foolhardy as to endanger her life repeatedly. 😳😏☺️
One of the best
This is one of the best Maggie Dernier books I have read. Maggie has aged well but she still has a knack for getting embroiled in messy situations. These books are like a little family reunion with children who grew up a little with each book and a husband and wife who matured with you.
A good mysterious romp through Paree
It was an easy read where the characters came to life. It took time for the reader to solve the mystery! This book is a nice read! Thanks.
