Los Angeles, 1923. The land of movie stars and perpetual sunshine has a stylish new force to be reckoned with—Poppy Starfire, Private Investigator.
Poppy recently moved out on her own and is eager for a taste of independence and to prove to her retired Uncle Sherman that she is capable of running the Starfire Detective Agency. Her brother Jasper has also joined the agency. Poppy prides herself on being a skilled investigator but so far the cases have been scarce and, to say the least, uninspiring. But that all changes when Anna Colton walks through the door. Anna’s brother Roger, a famous stuntman for the local movie studio, has died in a well publicized accidental fall. Only Anna’s not convinced it was an accident. It’s up to Poppy and Jasper to peel away the layers and uncover the truth. Who killed Roger ‘Rowdy’ James?

Cozy Mystery
I greatly enjoyed this book. Poppy is a hoot and I loved the surrounding cast of characters. The mystery was good and I thought the historical setting was well written. I was disappointed about who the actual killer was and what their motivation turned out to be though.
Excellent book
I loved the characters. Some of their antics made me laugh aloud. I appreciated that the author did not have to use profanity to make the story excellent.
Murder On Lot D
This book was a delight to read. But then, all of Lovett’s books are a delight. I can count on one hand how many reviews I’ve ever written. But, I was compelled to leave one this time. Lovett’s stories are funny, well written, great characters and relationships. Even though the plots are sometimes a little thin, I don’t care. I love that Lovett doesn’t resort to sex to move her books along. Don’t get me wrong, I love a good romantic scene as much as the next person. But, it’s nice to have such a good alternative to the vanilla (okay, it’s way past vanilla) porn that is so prevalent now.
