Famed Cellist Dies a Fashionable Death in Murder on Stilettos by P.J. Conn
-- Los Angeles, 1947 –-
Constance Remson, a wealthy young society woman, hires Joe Ezell to follow the man she is dating, Matteo de Milano--a famed cellist known for his brief but torrid affairs. Joe finds the amorous musician dead, the victim of a savage assault with a stiletto heel.
Now, Constance wants Joe to solve the mystery surrounding her former lover's death.
But, with a long list of beautiful jilted lovers—of which any one could have spun rejection into murder—an unexpected insight brings the murderer to justice and earns Joe some much needed respect.
Publisher Note: The Detective Joe Ezell Mystery Series is a "clean and wholesome" read with no sex or vulgar language and will be enjoyed by readers of cozy mysteries and classic detective "whodunit" mysteries in the spirit of Sam Spade and Humphrey Bogart. While not a true noir or hard-boiled mystery, this series captures the charm of film noir without the drugs, sex and beatings.
". . . solid characters, set back in the 1940's where times seemed simpler . . ." ~C. Weber, eBook Discovery Reviewer

Murder on stilettos
I’m not used to reading books taking place in the mid twentieth century. What was interesting was all the items we take for granted hadn’t been invented yet. The story is about a thirty something man, home from WWII and becoming a detective and part time actor. I loved the relationship he has with Mary Margaret. Joe doesn’t just focus on one case, but works on many before he figures out who killed Matteo. It shows he can multitask in his job.
Matilda tried not to like Joe but ..... you have to read the book to see whodunnit and the trials with Mary Margaret’s mother. It isn’t until the very end when you realize (after Joe tells you) who the murder really is.
I need to read the previous books to see what I’ve missed. The action is laid back, but you have an opportunity to relive a time not quite as hectic as today. Plus Joe’s devotion to Mary Margaret is refreshing.
A nice mystery for a cold winter’s night.
